A Moronic Request: A Pro at 15?

Sports Central | Original Sports Fan Commentary and Articles Since 1998http://www.sports-central.org [Sports Central | Original Sports Fan Commentary and Articles Since 1998] I think it's due to Michelle Wie's accomplishments among her many attempts to play in the big leagues that prompted Carmen Bandea to believe that she too, could reach the same results, except with money as the primary motivation. Whatever people may say about Michelle Wie, she is still motivated to play for the scores and visibly thrilled about her learner's permit.

Double Hole-in-One

[iBLOGthere4iM] SI: Villecco went first, and she knocked her 9-iron tee shot into the hole on the downhill 115-yard third hole at Chenango Valley State Park Golf Course. The shot landed just short of the green, rolled toward the hole and banked in off the pin. [cut] Once the celebration subsided, it was MacDonald's turn to hit.

LPGA: Sybase Classic Preview

[The Sand Trap .com - Golf News, Reviews, and Opinions for Golfers, By Golfers] From 48-year old Beth Daniel, winner of 33 LPGA events and a golfer who hasn't missed the cut this year to 18-year old Paula Creamer, the talent is varied this week. Creamer is a newcomer on tour but has already made $168,811 playing in LPGA events. Brittany Lincicome, 19 and another 2005 tour rookie, doesn't have the stats of Creamer, has only made $26,582 on tour to date and jumped directly into the LPGA after an opening-round 66 in the 2004 U.S. Women's Open.

Forbes: Coolest Sports Gadgets

[Shopping Blog at ShoppingBlog.com * Shopping Trends and Hot Products *] A Forbes article (via MSNBC.com) discusses what it says are the coolest sports gadgets. The list includes a radio-controlled baseball pitcher from Hammacher Schlemmer, the Suunto X9 sports watch, the Lowrance LCX-26C HD fish finder, and a useful bike computer for cyclists from Vetta. But the coolest product on the list (if you are a golfer) has to be the Remote Golf Caddy, an automated caddy robot that follows you around the golf course carrying your clubs and drinks. Unfortunately, despite the $3,800 price tag, the Remote Golf Caddy won't give you any sage Bagger Vance type of advice.

Course closure mania

A Golfing Michiganderhttp://spaces.msn.com/members/migolfer [A Golfing Michigander] While traveling in the Leelanau Peninsula recently, I had the opportunity to get out and play 9 holes of golf. Although going to an upscale course might be my first instinct, there are times in which I like to play lesser known, even below average courses too. In this area there is one such place - a rather unusual, if not conventionally named course: Veronica Valley. Unusual because the brochure for it states, "A..rolling..course with cleverly placed Smithsonian registered artistic attractions and farm implements..."

PGA: Sluman Surges to First-Round Lead at The Memorial

[The Sand Trap .com - Golf News, Reviews, and Opinions for Golfers, By Golfers] Of course, Thursday and Friday at The Memorial are more a part of Jack Nicklaus' collective ego stroke than anything, and the media will no doubt fawn over Jack's +3 75. As well they should if for no other reason than his 75 beat world #1 Vijay Singh and Charles Howell III (77) by two, Mike Weir and John Daly by one (76), and Davis Love III (78) by three. Local knowledge had its advantages as Jack bounced two consecutive approach shots to within six inches (and bounced one tee shot off of a spectator's jaw, sending him to the hospital).

In the Zone

http://www.bunkermulligan.net [Bunker Mulligan] In every sport there are times when a player seems unable to do anything wrong. You can see it in basketball when a player puts in through the hoop from everywhere on the court, no matter what contortions he has to go through to get the shot off. In football, that quarterback who threads every needle, or running back the glides through the defense for ten yards every carry. Roger Clemens or Pedro Martinez sending batters back to the dugout, or someone going five for five at the plate.
