[Uncensored.rediffblogs.com] Intoxicated: Dubai is essentially an expanding city with innovative architectural ventures being encouraged by the Government whole heartedly. The houses that we saw along the sides were a unique combination of Islamic cum European style,I didnt want to miss capturing them all on my cam!!Along the Jumeirah Beach Park especially, the property estates were exquisite, the design of these houses give a distinctive Arabic cum desert feel, since most of them are done in nuetral shades and have semi circular windows.Another striking feature of residential areas were the numerous medical and dental clinics.Unlike in India they dont carry a red cross or anything remotely daunting, they are all rather done attractively.Next we stopped on the Jumeirah Beach from where the world famous 7 star hotel (its an understatement to call it a hotel, its an architectural wonder!!) Burj Al Arab was visible. The first sight of it had all of us gap in awe at its stature!Having seen it on Discovery earlier, we knew what to expect and I must say we were mighty impressed with its presence and aura. The beach aint exactly great but harbours pristine emerald waters.Next destination was Madinet Jumeirah, another architectural wonder, albeit of different sort. Its a hotel built in traditional Arabic style in nuetral pink and earthly yellow, spreads across like a 'haveli' and has lavish interiors. The hotel has an indoor market called Mina A Salam thats again a typical Arabic market selling traditional stuff like Persian carpets, antiques, jewellry, hookah, aromas/incense etc interspersed with cafes and restaurants.Dad ofcourse had a great time filming it on his video cam!
[Webmasterdubai.blogspot.com] Adventures in Dubai: May 2005: Actually, I wouldn't mind a credit card for emergencies and Interweb purchases, but the banks here won't give me one because I own a small business, and they consider this too much of a risk. Ironically my employees can get cards, because they are paid a regular salary.
