[Oloop.org] The following are pictures of Tiger Woods practicing off the heli-deck of the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, UAE. They were taken when Tiger was in Dubai for the Desert Classic, March 2, 2004. $1 million appearance fee, and he gets to hit shag balls from the tallest hotel in the world.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[P.E.I Jen's Blog] I'm bored: I do actually learn things on t.v too. I checked out Christine's pictures from Dubai, the Burj Al Arab and I watched, I think it was Super Structures or something like that, and I watched how they built it, very cool building. They show a lot of motorcycle shows and oddly I like to see them sometimes. The O.C.C (Orange County Choppers) made a bike that looked like a CAT, those yellow bulldozers and stuff, it turned out pretty cool.
[HaHAAAA!] Bubb 8 Links: Day Four: If you're hoping to read this and find a reason to hate Apple, you're going to be disappointed. I'd rather have a release followed immediately by a shipment too, so right on Steve.
[Cool Or What?] Play golf and tennis on top of the world: Burj Al Arab ******* (yes, 7 stars) apparently paid Tiger Woods $1.000.000 to hit golf balls from their helipad last summer: IMG Last week they got Roger Federer and Andre Agassi to promote the Dubai Duty Free Men's Open by making them “play” tennis on the helipad: IMG All of it in the “
[Friskodude.blogspot.com] FriskoDude: Burj Dubai Now Under Construction: As wind whirls around a tall building it can build into powerful vortices that in turn generate powerful winds on the ground. But the wide base of the Burj Dubai should also prevent wind from causing these disturbances. Besides beating the Taipei Tower, which stands at 508 metres tall, Burj Dubai will also be considerably taller than the CN tower in Toronto, Canada which at 553 metres is the tallest structure in the world without a multiple floor structure.
[Friskodude.blogspot.com] FriskoDude: North Korea Secret Nuclear Launch Sites: Luckily, if it does go up as scheduled, it would hold on to the title of the worlds tallest building only for a short period, because Koreas Samsung Corporation has won a contract to build the 160-story, 700-meter Burj Dubai Tower in the UAE. Unlike the Lotte structure, however, the Burj Dubai Tower design should really be spectacular, as the illustration would indicate. Shame Samsung had to build it in Dubai while Korea gets stuck with a 112-story monument to Lottes lack of good taste.
[Nmazca.com] nmazca.blog : embedded in the floating world: "Dubai is understandably proud of these projects and of the niche it has carved for itself in becoming a city with an impressively energetic and innovative reputation. However, it is worth remembering that without these guest workers such flagship projects would not be possible."
[Andycarvin.com] Andy Carvin's Waste of Bandwidth: The boat soon collided with the dock on the Deira side of the creek; several Indian men had already casually jumped off the boat before the rest of the crowd waited for the docking before following suit. Ivar and I walked ashore and took an underground walkway to reach the entrance of the Spice Souk. Unlike my previous daytime visit to the souk, the bazaar was bustling at night, with most of the shops open for business. Huge bins of herbs, incense and spices lined each storefront: sage, oregano, cumin, cardamom, peppers, dried lemons, frankincense, myrrh.
[Worldgolf.com] World Golf: Dubai golf: The model for Dubai's golf course boom is American in style. The eight golf courses and facilities, with more on the way, are conceived and built not in the Spartan fashion of many of golf's original clubs in the United Kingdom, but rather with the comforts and appointments that Americans added to the game: motorized golf carts, automated GPS yardage devices, beverage carts and half-way houses, comfortable locker rooms, and golf shops stocked with quality equipment and fashionable apparel. No caddies, however, as there is little demand for them.
