[Brian McCallen] Above and Beyond: Is the Highland Course at Primland the best ...: The Highland Course is living proof that golf course architecture, in the hands of the right practitioner, is an art. The broad corridors are carved from a mixed deciduous forest, mainly hickory, oak, poplar, maple, locust, pine and black gum, with an understory of rhododendron and mountain laurel that bursts into bloom in the spring. The fall foliage display, at its peak in early- to mid-October, is stunning, though most golfers choose to visit in summer, when temperatures at Primland are much cooler than those at sea level.

Anytime you have a forced carry the pendulum swings heavily to the player that can not only have the appropriate launch and spin but also repetitive speeds because that player knows exactly how far the ball goes and can gauge distance over a player that’s less skilled."

[Golf Tips Blog] Rhode Island Golf Courses - Beaver River: The tees and fairways are a combination of rye, fescue and blue grass and my playing partner (Sam, a retired bricklayer from Westerly) said the golf course is beautifully green in the summer. There are no bunkers on the course, so you can leave your sand wedge home.
[World golf and travel articles from WorldGolf.com] Valhalla Golf Club popular with PGA stars and weekend golfers: In fact, architect Jack Nicklaus presents golfers with so many mighty, memorable tracts it proves difficult to choose the postage stamp or signature hole from this meanest of mean 18. The consensus choice, though, is the 13th, euphemistically named "The Island." The Island is, in fact, a fortress, the green raised above the level of surrounding Floyd's Creek by some 15 feet and buttressed by gigantic, grey stones that look as if they were ramrodded in place by Odin himself.

[LouisvilleHotBytes.com] Big-city dining at bucolic Holly Hill | LouisvilleHotBytes.com: Oceanside, run by a friendly Moroccan couple, offers a broad variety of fish and seafood dishes (plus chicken wings and an array of breaded-and-fried munchies that rivals Moby Dick’s fried-things selection for variety). We made a quick stop to check it out and were impressed with a fish sandwich with fries ($4.99) and a fried oyster dinner ($7.99).
[The Fresh Loaf] Pierre Nury's Rustic Light Rye - Leader | The Fresh Loaf: I left my starter overnight to develop - about 10 hours. I too found the dough took far longer to rise at the ferment stage than Leader says. I've come to the conclusion his estimate on the ferment stage is a bit too optimistic (I have made a lot of the breads from that book and so far, none of them give an estimate of rising time greater than about 3 hours). It was about 75F in my kitchen and it really hadn't risen much more than about 25% after about 5 hours! So I stuck it in the fridge with no real expectations it would rise any more. I was surprised to find it had risen beautifully to almost 3.5 times the next day. The taste is fantastic. I think it IS similar to a SF sourdough but the taste is so complex it's not like tanginess is the only thing your palate tastes. My husband and I had it with smoked salmon and capers and that was yum. It's just as good with sweet conserves though.
